Makins hats are "handmade", one at a time in their factory in New York city. They began production in 1974 using a jiffy steamer,and molded the raw hat bodies over wood blocks. All Makins hats continue to be made in their own factory in New York City where they sew the braids and block all their hats on wood blocks by hand. Makins uses only Swarovski stones on their Women's Church and Dressy Hats. Never will you see imitation rhinestones on Makins hats. Nor will you ever see hats made in China in a Makins Hat Collection. Makins take great pride in making the finest hats available.
